Phyle

2018
Bisque fired clay (Stoneware, Earthenware, Earthstone and Calcium Bentonite), laser engraving on leather, surgical steel, spray paint, rubber, dimensions variable

‘Phyle’ negotiates with the representation of the members of a primordial tribe, departing from the sound piece produced for ‘Suggestions and Encounters: Physical or Otherwise’. Their bodies exist in a state of flux, caught between becoming and unbecoming. Shapes that emerge from their clay bodies suggest symbols and become a semi-visible language in a state of perpetual motion, registered on strips of leather.
