Phyle

2018
Bisque fired clay (Stoneware, Earthenware, Earthstone and Calcium Bentonite), laser engraving on leather, surgical steel, spray paint, rubber, dimensions variable

‘Phyle’ negotiates the representation of the members of a primordial tribe, departing from the sound piece produced for ‘Suggestions and Encounters: Physical or Otherwise’. Their bodies exist in a state of flux, caught between becoming and unbecoming. Shapes that emerge from their clay bodies suggest symbols and become a semi-visible language in a state of perpetual motion, registered on strips of leather.
